It is tempting to show off your capabilities as an editor and add lots of flourishes to your video. While these may be pleasing in videos designed for entertainment, they are distracting in tutorial videos. Simplicity is key for instruction. With that in mind, here are some important guidelines for effective aesthetics.
- Center important images.
- If you need the user to look at a particular part of an image, highlight the screen, then cut to the enlarged image.
- Use images in sequence rather than having multiple ones onscreen at once.
- Use novelty transitions and zooms sparingly.

Be aware of elements that can cause your video to appear outdated, even if the information in it remains accurate. The Library, Georgia Tech, and vendors are constantly updating their aesthetics. Keeping your video up to date means staying abreast of these changes.
