Patent information for Georgia Tech community

How to find patent information

On this page, you will find patent searching information that is available only to Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff.

  • Online patent searching allows you to find patents and published applications that help you decide the novelty and non-obviousness of your invention/innovation. You can also search for the latest technologies in patent documents for further improvements.
  • There are books on patents available to check out and learn even more about them. This is a selection of some of the best at Georgia Tech.

Patent search tools

To help faculty, researchers, and students navigate worldwide patent information, the Georgia Tech Library has subscribed to two commercial patent databases, Derwent Innovation Index and InnovationQ Plus. If your invention/innovation is in chemistry related fields, you can also use SciFinder to locate chemical patent documents. Other free online databases include USPTO's Patent Public Search, EPO's Espacenet, and WIPO's PatentScope.

Searching for patents at the Georgia Tech Library

The Georgia Tech Library is a Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) and we provide a dedicated computer for patent search, in additional to many useful search tools. While all the online patent databases can be accessed anywhere, you can reserve the patent station online and come to the Price Gilbert Library to conduct your patent search.

If you need a customized training on any commercial or free patent search tools, please email: GTPTRC@library.gatech.edu
