Because we want everyone to benefit from our content, all Library videos must be ADA compliant. Below are steps that you can take to ensure than your video meets our standards.
For visuals:
- Run graphics through a contrast checker to ensure that they are meaningful to those with impaired vision, including color blindness.
- Do not rely on color alone to convey meaning, as not everyone sees colors in the same way. Use other visual or audio cues to distinguish assets. For example, instead of saying "click on the yellow button," say "click on the button that says 'request reservation.'"
For audio:
- Do not rely on automated captions. Automated captions frequently misinterpret technical term. They also misinterpret works spoken in dialects and accents, which are important parts of diverse representation. This is why all Library videos must have an edited caption track.
- Learn more about captions on the Web Accessibility Initiative's Caption/Subtitle page.
For your finished video:
Upload a transcript alongside your video. This includes a visual description of the video and all audio effects. Learn more about transcripts on the Web Accessibility's Transcripts page.
